Meditation Teacher Certification

For those wishing to proceed to certification as a Yogacampus meditation teacher, you will need to have taken all four modules and, in addition, to complete the following to the satisfaction of the course tutors within 15 months of completing your first module:

  • have a 30 minute private online conversation with one of the course tutors to discuss your assignments and any questions you may have about the course materials;
  • maintain a diary of your own personal meditation practice for at least 20 days in a 30 day period, and submit a summary of your reflections and insights from maintaining and journalling a regular practice;
  • submit audio recordings of you guiding two different meditations, each of about 20 minutes in length.

You will receive written feedback on your diary reflections and audio recordings from one of the course tutors.

The Meditation Series

Probably the single most constant element of yoga practice through the ages has been meditation. As BKS Iyengar himself wrote, Yoga is Meditation, and Meditation is Yoga.

But meditation is also an essential part of Buddhist practice, and more recently has been widely and beneficially adopted in the modern world as a standalone practice in all sorts of different environments.

We are excited to launch The Meditation Series. Join senior teachers Isabell Britsch and Graham Burns for a series of four 6 hour modules exploring all aspects of meditation practice and teaching. The modules can be taken independently or booked as a series – and those taking all four also have the option to gain Yogacampus Meditation Teacher certification (see further below).

The four modules are offered live online and are open to anyone interested in meditation, teacher or not and yoga practitioner or not. Each module will include a mixture of short lectures, group discussion, and a number of guided meditations.

You will explore:

Meditation Myths De-bunked: what exactly is meditation? How and why do we do it? And why does it sometimes seem so difficult? This module will challenge some common preconceived ideas about meditation, discuss different meditation styles and techniques, and give you a practical structure for understanding meditation in a broad, non-dogmatic framework.

Meditation Roots and Shoots: different historical traditions have given us different approaches to meditation, and meditation’s development continues up to the present day. In this module, learn, through lecture and practice, about the differences (and similarities) between meditation in different yoga traditions, Buddhism, and the modern mindfulness movement.

Guiding Meditation: have you ever wanted to be able to lead your friends, colleagues, or students in meditation, but are not sure how to go about it? This module will give you key techniques for structuring and guiding both stand-alone meditation practices and for incorporating meditation into general yoga classes, including tips around posture, use of language, and cautions and challenges. You do not need to be a yoga teacher to take this module!

 Meditation is All in the Mind (or is it?): modern scientific research continues to confirm the physical, mental, and neurological benefits of meditation. In this module, learn how meditation impacts the brain and nervous system, with a particular emphasis on stress relief. In addition we will explore trauma awareness and what it means to teach with inclusivity and diversity in mind. This module can be interesting for yoga teachers who want to learn more about inclusive teaching, difference and diversity without being purely interested in teaching meditation.
